Fiorentina Women will return to the UEFA Champions League next season after snatching a dramatic point against Inter!

Veronica Boquete kept her cool to convert a 95th-minute penalty which clinched a 2-2 draw and mathematically ensured third place for the Viola.

The first half was a largely even affair with the Viola perhaps having the upper hand, yet it was the hosts who took the lead shortly before the break when Lina Magull scored from the spot after Agnese Bonfantini was fouled by Pauline Hammarlund in the box.

Bonfantini made it 2-0 soon after the restart when she turned in from close range after Elisa Polli's mazy run.

However, that goal sparked a reaction from the Viola and within minutes Emma Severini had pulled one back with a low drive from outside the box.

Inter then looked to batten down the hatches as Fiorentina poured forward seeking an equalizer.

The Nerazzurre had the chance to put the game to bed with two minutes remaining but Linda Tucceri Cimini and then Severini saved on the line.

The match seemed over going into the fourth minute of stoppage time but then Miriam Longo was brought down trying to go past an opponent in the box and the ref awarded a penalty. Up stepped our Spanish midfielder and she made no mistake.

It was the last kick of the game and as the final whistle sounded joy exploded on the field as the Viola celebrated returning to European football for the first time since 2020/21.

Sebastian de La Fuente's side have two more league matches to play before the Coppa Italia final against Roma (May 24). Their next game is at home to Juventus on Monday May 6 (18:00 kick-off).
