Coppa Italia Primavera: Cagliari win at Viola Park

Fiorentina lost on penalties to Cagliari in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia Primavera.

It was an uphill battle for Fiorentina Primavera, who fell behind in the 19th minute with a goal from French striker Yael Trepy. Cagliari doubled their lead shortly after the half hour mark with Trepy getting on the scoresheet again. The starlet smashed a volley in from 30 yards out past the Viola’s despairing goalkeeper Tommaso Vannucchi.

Jacopo Tarantino pulled one back before the break for the hosts and then Riccardo Braschi completed the comeback in the 65th minute.

Despite many opportunities Fiorentina Primavera were unable to see off the visitors, and eventually suffered defeat in the penalty shootout, exiting the Coppa Italia in the quarter-finals.

The Viola, who has won this competition numerous times in recent years, will now channel their energy into the final months of the season. Next up is Roma away, who are the current leaders of Primavera 1.
