Gosens' Gazzetta interview: "Fiorentina a family. Weaknesses can make you stronger"

Robin Gosens sat down with La Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist Matteo Dalla Vite for a long interview which was published in the famous Italian sports newspaper on Saturday.

Here are a few brief excerpts:

ON VICTORY OVER INTER

“I think we sent out a strong message about what sort of a team we are. We had limited options and it was a difficult game to prepare for because we were barely able to organize an 11 v 11 in training. If you can overcome difficulties like that as a team, as a family, and produce a performance like we did, it means you have an amazing group of players who are willing to battle for each other. If we play like that – compact and with positive energy – we're going to be tough to beat. That was the message we sent out.”

ON THE VIOLA FAMILY

“Another factor is Edo[ardo] Bove, because obviously no one wanted such a bad thing to happen, but it helped us form an even stronger bond. I don't think it would have been possible otherwise. I never would have wanted anything like that to happen but the result is such an incredibly strong bond between us that it feels like we're a family. I could spend all day here and I feel at home.

“Something like that could happen to any of us so you have to enjoy every moment in life. You have to go through life with a smile, otherwise it can be tiring. That's what I've learnt from my personal experience.”

ON WEAKNESSES AND STRENGTH

Do you know the song Nessuno vuole essere Robin (No one wants to be Robin)?

"Yes, I've heard it."

It says that everyone wants to be a superhero and no one wants to be a normal person with weaknesses.

“I can only speak for myself. I think weakness is essential to growing as a person – as a man and as a footballer. If you never let weakness in, if you always pretend you're fine and strong, you're excluding the possibility of improving yourself. I think you can learn a lot from weaknesses. You learn about yourself. You understand who you are. The reality is that no one is perfect. We all have our flaws and we're all fragile. If we're not able to accept our weak points, we'll never be able to grow as a human being.”
