Moise Kean interview

Moise Kean spoke to UEFA.com about music and football. The young Fiorentina forward is aiming to take his side beyond the UEFA Conference League round of 16 and go as far as possible in the competition.

On music and football...

I’ve been into music from a young age. Where I come from we play football and make music. I used to play football and competed in rap battles with the other kids. That's how it all started. I always dreamt of playing football and releasing my own music one day.

Over time I've realised many things, not least that if you're good at two things, it's a real gift. A lot of people have a certain career, but they also have another talent. I want to share the message that you can do anything you want in life.

How can I describe what music does to you? It’s about a person’s energy. It’s about a certain vibe – maybe you listen to a different genre of music or maybe you listen to the same kind, and maybe friendship springs from there.

The emotions created from football just can’t be put into words – after scoring a goal, or regaining possession in front of the crowd, with everyone wearing their heart on their sleeve and making you feel their emotions. I think that’s just fantastic.

On music...

I've been writing music for a long time but I never got around to putting it out there, because I was more focused on doing other things. One day I just stopped and said to myself, ‘Look, I want people to understand my message, because it's important to share it with a lot of people.’

On Florence and Fiorentina...

When I first arrived, the city of Florence showed me so much warmth. That makes you feel good, especially if you’re like me and you’ve had certain issues in the past.

This city has really welcomed me with open arms and that’s given me the strength to continue to strive and be consistent in everything I do. The fans pay so much to come and watch us at the Franchi and so we want to put on a show, perform for them and make sure they have a good time. I like to celebrate after I score and go and hug the fans with my team-mates.

The first few months have gone going quite well. I know I can do more and I know we can do more as a team. We’re a great side and that counts for a lot. Having a group of people like the one we’ve got this season at Fiorentina really helps, and that's what I really needed.

On the Conference League and the Fiorentina’s objectives...

We almost never talk about the finals Fiorentina lost. What’s more, old wounds don’t serve any purpose in the here and now. We’ve discussed those games but not much, and in any case, such defeats inspire you to do better, to improve yourself. I hope we go far as a team because we’ve got a great group and we deserve it.
