Roland Mandragora says Fiorentina should have had something to show for their efforts after another strong performance against Inter.
The 27-year-old scored his first career penalty to make it 1-1 shortly before half time but despite ending the second half in the ascendancy the Viola weren't able to find another goal as it finished 2-1 to the hosts in Milan.
“We can take a great deal of encouragement from this display,” the midfielder explained after the final whistle. “It's a shame because when you go to San Siro and play as well as we did today – a bit more defensive in the first half then differently in the second – you can't not be disappointed.
“I'm happy to have converted the penalty. We all played really well. Like on Thursday, we played our hearts out trying to implement our game plan. We're just gutted about the result because when you play like that you don't expect to leave empty-handed but that's what happened.
“In the first half we tried to withstand Inter's pressure as they went at it hammer and tongs, then in the second they eased off a little and we were able to have more of the ball and create some chances.
“It's in the past now and we have to focus on the next one – that's more important.”
