The 1939-1940 Italy Cup was the 7th edition of the football event. It began on September 3, 1939 and ended on June 16, 1940.

The event, based on the now proven formula inspired by the FA Cup, saw Fiorentina triumph for the first time. The Viola enjoyed the advantage of playing the final against Genoa 1893 at home, but they absolutely deserved to win the cup thanks to their praiseworthy progress which had seen them clearly eliminate three teams of absolute caliber such as Milan, Lazio and Juventus. To underline in this edition the surprising progress of the provincial Macerata which arrives to play the round of 16 against Lazio.
