Despite three goals from Madelen Janogy, Fiorentina suffered a 5-3 defeat to Milan in an explosive head-to-head on Saturday. The game marked the sixth meeting between the two sides this season.

Milan dominated in the first half with Evelyn Ilej scoring a brace within the first half an hour. The Viola came to life at the end of the first half and narrowed the gap with a goal from Janogy. 

The first blow for Sebastian De La Fuente came just before the start of the second half when he was forced to sub off Cecilie Fiskerstrand and Lucia Pastrenge due to injury. The hosts took advantage of this with Giorgia Arrigoni and Monica Renzotti firing two more into the net. Milan tried to wrap it up in the 61st minute with another goal from Emma Koivisto who tapped home to make it five. 

Fiorentina got back on the front foot and within twenty minutes Janogy had scored another two, securing herself a hattrick. Fiorentina kept pushing but Milan held the line and contained any further attempts by the Viola. Not even Giulia Baccaro – who made her Serie A debut – could shift the balance. After five minutes of stoppage time, AC Milan came away victorious – their first win in their last six games against Fiorentina. 

Fiorentina remain six points away from the Champions League zone going into the weekend. The Viola now have a week off before they return to the pitch on Friday 25 April at Viola Park against Juventus.
