Fiorentina Women’s comeback attempt fell short in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals. Juventus ran out 1-0 victors in the second leg, and with their 3-2 triumph in the first leg, they brought the curtain down on Fiorentina’s cup run.

It was a match with few highlights, in which both teams were tactically cautious. Godo broke the deadlock with a header to give the hosts the lead. A few more chances followed, plenty of tough tackles, but nobody else managed to get on the scoresheet.

In the second half, both coaches, Max Canzi and Sebastian De La Fuente, attempted to shake things up, but the scoreline remained unchanged. Fiorentina’s best opportunity came in the 75th minute when Emma Snerle took aim from distance, only for Pauline Peyraud-Magnin to get just enough of a touch to deflect it on to the post. The match slipped away from Fiorentina, though they fought until the very end to level the scores. A double chance in the closing moments ended up being the final effort, but in the end, the Viola are eliminated from the Coppa Italia, safe in the knowledge that they fought until the last whistle.

Fiorentina will now take a three-day break, as they have a scheduled rest this weekend. All focus now shifts to the league: Roma are six points ahead, with 21 points still up for grabs in the race for a Champions League spot. The team will return to action on Saturday March 15th, once again in Biella against Juventus, with their European ambitions firmly in mind.
